Heads of Security and Security Trainers could have realized by now that we are in a new norm because of the technological developments besides global threats impacting all countries one way or the other. Obviously, the methods or criminal behaviour and terror attacks have also evolved.

Counter Terror was considered the mission of Public security and Private security did NOT consider that counter terror was their role. We all saw the role of private security during covid managing the flow and behaviour of the world’s population besides monitoring their health status and uncovered related crime that changed the dynamic.

Now security needs to comprehend and classify certain considerations in order to mitigate collateral damage or lower the level of damage by countering terror.

Gang violence uses terror just as the geopolitical terror cells. The criteria to consider three aspects namely the Rape of people, Murder, and Polarized neighbourhoods (Foreign occupation).
– An example, to consider is when a country has a rape rate of one person every 5 minutes every day besides one person murdered every 24 minutes every day, then should we consider that the population is living in a state of terror.
We add to this South African example above that includes xenophobic attacks on immigrant businesses. Even so, the ratio could be smaller in size in other countries, but the criteria are the same.

Subsequently, if counter terror trainers use past case studies such as the bus bombings in the UK or any public site for private security training, then there is a problem with relevancy. There are many splinter groups of terrorists that could be missioned to attack specific businesses for different reasons.
Intelligent People know that they need knowledge and skills to understand the intelligence.

Security Companies and Security Practitioners should inform their management or clients of the risk and upgrade the technologies besides brief staff on specifics besides train up staff with relevant skills. Any security company or practitioner that does not action the concept of ‘relevancy’ will suffer major reputational damage.
